    A great solution for running a delay in the front is to use a ducking delay, for instance TC’s Flashback. That way the delay doesn’t affect the sound (in a bad way) when playing, and as soon as you stop playing you have those nice trails.

      I'd be hesitant to put it at that point in the signal ; not sure it would handle power amp output levels, but I'm not an expert. I'd suggest connecting with Great Eastern FX with that question.

      I think you could use it in a number of contexts. The humbuckers are full but not overly dark or muddy. Having the pull pot to allow for more single coil sound gives you more versatility for closer to Strat or Tele tones.

    I had a g5420t. For some reason, for the longest time, I would get stuck on the fact that it didn't have normal filtertrons, or that it didn't have the string-thru bigsby, or that it said electromatic on the pickguard, and I'd think of ways to cover those up and hide them. Make it seem like the professional series. I think now I'm realizing that I can still be proud of an instrument like this. The only substance behind my thoughts was elitism. Thinking that the only "real" gretsch guitars are made in Japan or the US. How silly a thought that is. How silly it is to find shame in not having the best. How silly it is to find the value in the instrument rather than what you do with it. I hope to have that guitar back someday. Maybe I'll play it with new eyes.

    • @AmbientEndeavors

      for sure, I've had my own journey of that feeling of not wanting to play certain brands or models or lines because of the name. there are SO many really solid instruments across the whole price range these days, and the invitation to play what sounds and feels good regardless of name or model has never been more timely.

    My goodness, what an incredible opening tone! Boutique guitars are great, but just a straight Tele through that rig was near perfection. If you ever do other videos on this I'd love to hear it through an HX Stomp. Does it need to be right before the amp modeler to have the best effect? Or can you run it before delays and reverbs into the amp and still get that tube saturation? I've grown up in the modeling world so I don't have much experience with tube amps or running all effects into an amp. I've always done the studio-clean thing of wet fx after the amp modelers.

    • @AmbientEndeavors
      @AmbientEndeavors 6 дней назад

      thanks man! Yeah, sometimes I just feel like running a Tele into a dirty amp, it makes layering really fun and the way the Tele cuts is pretty unique. RE: placement, I need to perhaps do a video using these as simply "dirt pedals" and see. I have really liked putting them last in the chain as they do add that nice touch of tube compression and "take pedals" well, so I've been happy - but I know that's just one of a few contexts you could use them in. I forgot to note, but there is a toggle on the side that allows you to run at a little hotter level when you're running into direct rigs, or flip down for a more mellow output for using it in line with your drive section.

  • @justingreen264
    @justingreen264 7 дней назад

    You are getting some beautiful tone out of that rig. Are you only running the Browne Amplification Gritador, Strymon El Capistan, Tubesteader Magnezium into the UA OX Stomp set to Soyuz 1973 mic? No Amp modeler or any other pedals off to the side? I'm using the UA Dream and just not getting the tone I want, but what you played in this video is so close to where I want to be.

    • @AmbientEndeavors
      @AmbientEndeavors 7 дней назад

      hey! that's the whole setup yea. ( Soyuz mic is just for talking bits ). SO - running those pedals into Ox Stomp - stereo out to a Pinstripe Pedals DISO+ , and there's a touch of plate reverb from the Ox Stomp. I multi track and mix the intro tracks, so there might be eq or compression on some of the tracks, but I really don't go crazy on that side of things. I use the Dream a lot too , and I think some of the magic does come from the tubes in these preamps bringing some life and dynamics back to the digital environment.

      @@AmbientEndeavors Thank you! I've been on the fence about the Ox Stomp for awhile and now definitely considering it with this Tubesteader. Crate VC508 5 watt tube amp. The pre-amp is a hybrid and uses only half of its tube, the rest of the tube's power goes to the poweramp so it probably has more power and bark than any other 5 watter out there. You have to set the gain and tone low and the volume high and also use the hidden FX Loop for your pedal but it's very loud with terrific screaming tube tone (I don't play guitar, old powerful harmonica microphones). You can get this for under $250 including tax and shipping.

And why would anyone actually ask your choice between a two pickup fixed bridge vs a three pickup vibrato bridge? Is a Strat vs Les Paul video up next? Is this just peak GuitarTube silliness for clicks? Is a "versus" video the algorithm magic bullet for views over simply doing two separate demos? I dunno, man. I was confused when I read the title, and still perplexed (or dismayed?) after I finished the video. Appreciated the playing, though.

      man, didn't mean to ruin your day ha! it's sincerely a question I've gotten at least a dozen times between the comments sections of both YT videos and over on IG. I like to try and hit topics viewers have when there's a contingent of interest/curiosity, so I figured I'd do that. OFC there are numerous points of divergence, but for my focused audience, these two specific guitars do kind of rise to the top in terms of price point and general "non-traditional , import , sub $1000" guitars. But this was never dubbed as an apples to apples comparison, merely a side by side walkthrough for those that have both guitars on their "list" and want to run em down together. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I never understood why guitar gear is marketed as stereo. There are no stereo amps and pedals. Stereo comes from our vision. We see in stereo. Both eyes overlap each other to make one image out of 2. This is how we get depth perception. In audio, stereo is a format that's used record and playback music. We don't see in stereo. We use it to capture and preserve spatial information on a recording. This isn't necessary for the original event. When you're playing an instrument stereo doesn't apply, but when you record an instrument stereo is used to better replicate what took place in a live setting. Just having two channels on a pedal doesn't make it stereo.

    I was surprised, the Reverend’s pickups were hotter than I expected. I love the idea of the bass contour/rolloff pot, and I wish other makers offered it. OTOH the idea of a Strat with the (approximate) shape and trem of a Jazzmaster is really, really cool.

      the Strat-like tones in the Surfliner DLX = def one of my favorite parts about it. It just kinda begs those indie rock / midwest emo kind of vibes.

    Good demo. I preferred the articulation of the Guild with the effects you were using. Sounded really nice. The Reverend sounded like it could use some EQ assistance, although I thought it was better with chords. Honestly I don’t believe anyone would be disappointed with either choice.

    • @AmbientEndeavors
      @AmbientEndeavors 11 дней назад

      yeah totally agree - I end up using the bass contour a lot on the reverend, feels like a full freq at max, and then definitely benefits from some eq carving. The Surfliner is a bit more scooped and carved in a way that I think is voiced to my liking as is.

    I have the exact same reverend and it has a really good sound, what I didn’t like was the neck that it came with.. supposedly it should be roasted and it just has like a dull white pale color, no roasted at all and looks cheap.. comparing it to my other one the Matt West Signature it looks so different, the Matt West has this nice roasted color.. also the OG has a little bit of fret buzz. It’s not that noticeable through the amp tho. It has a nice sound, just the one I have I didn’t like the neck and it could be fixed by getting a new one from reverend but I don’t think they sell them anywhere :(

      ahh yeah. I hear ya. I'd say the neck on mine is a bit underwhelming too. Feels and plays fine, but honest really have that deep roasted look that the Guild and some other "roasted" necks I have here possess.

    Greetings from a fellow ambient & melody noise guitar explorer and tone seeker, very kool channel. I got my eyes on these beautiful guitars for some months now, although Reverend is a bit pricey for my current range. Best regards from Mne, Europe. Mladen

      lol. I think the name does it a huge disservice - I’m sure it *can* do surf but man is it fun for so much more. I guess the same could be said about “Jazzmaster” - not sure I’ve ever heard jazz played on it 🤷🏼‍♂️

      @@AmbientEndeavors 🤣 Right, I dont have a single coil guitar yet, so I am looking at either Strats, Tels or Jazzmasters. Been a long time Les Paul guy. Its just a name, but I couldnt help myself. Good content though, all jokes aside.

      thanks for watching! Yeah , both guitars are pretty dang cool. I've got a lot of use out of the Surfliner DLX and love the tonal range of each of the pickup positions, but every time I plug the Double Agent in I remember how much I love the bass contour on the Reverends. Both solid choices!

    Crazy but after all, the stock Celestion was the best clean to my ears. The Green. Beret sounds great for the dirty tones!

      tend to agree! I was impressed with the stock pairing. I too like the GB for gritty tones, it added some complexity to the breakup, to my ears.
